Oxfam is a global movement of people who won’t live with the injustice of poverty. Together we save and rebuild lives in disasters. We help people build better lives for themselves and we speak out on the big issues that keep people poor, like inequality, discrimination against women and climate change.

Facts about our job

  • When an emergency hits, Oxfam is there. At any given time our teams are responding to an average of 25 emergencies worldwide.
  • In 2017/18, we supported 14 million people, and responded to 49 humanitarian emergencies.
  • In 2014/15, we supported 8.1 million people in 39 humanitarian emergencies.

We’re experts in transforming the goodwill and commitment of people who care into immediate, effective and lasting change for people living with the daily pain of poverty. We respond to global emergencies, saving lives when disaster strikes. And by staying long after the dust has settled, we help people to come back stronger so they can stand on their own two feet. We work at a grass-roots level, promoting development, helping people to help themselves out of poverty – supporting their right to work and provide for their loved ones. And we take on global issues that keep people poor or hit poor people hardest, like inequality, discrimination against women and climate change, to create a just world without poverty.
